Canada's Postage Stamps of the Small Queen Era

Your Price: $150.00

1870-1897 by John Hillson & J. Edward Nixon. This long-awaited companion to George B. Arfken's, CANADA'S SMALL QUEEN ERA 1870-1897, which covered the postal history of this issue, was published by The Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation in 2008. This book is the culmination of several years of work by two well-known, highly-respected specialists in Small Queens, John Hillson of Scotland, and J. Edward (Ted) Nixon of Toronto. John Hillson has written extensively on the Small Queens, including two handbooks on the subject published by Robson Lowe Ltd, and Christie's-Robson Lowe. Ted Nixon is the Chairman of the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation, and just recently sold his Gold Medal collection of Small Queens through Eastern Auctions Ltd. This full-colour book is the most comprehensive study of the stamps of this period to date. It contains detailed information on the plates, proofs, colours, papers and major varieties found on each value of the issue, which also includes the two Widow's Weeds stamps. The colour reproduction is superb! Since Arfken's Small Queen Era book so thoroughly covered the postal usage of stamps of this period, postal usage is examined in this book only for the purpose of explaining the rationale for issuing the stamps. It is a beautiful hard cover book in full-size format of 11" X 8.5" X 0.875" (28cm X 21.5cm X 2cm) and it is 246 pages in length. It weighs approximately 1080 grams when packaged for mailing. (Please note that the vertical lines on the scan of the cover are artifacts from the scanner and do not appear on the cover itself.)
